Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs)
The Large-scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET) creates a financial incentive for the establishment or expansion of renewable energy power stations by legislating demand for Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs). Each megawatt-hour of eligible renewable electricity produced by an accredited renewable power station will create one LGC.The LRET includes legislated annual targets which will require significant investment in new renewable energy generation capacity in the coming years.LGCs can be sold to entities with liabilities under the LRET to meet their compliance obligations with the LRET scheme’s annual targets.
OMF Markets can assist you in buying or selling LGCs to meet your company’s requirements.
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)
The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) creates a financial incentive for households, small businesses and community groups to install eligible small-scale renewable energy systems by legislating demand for Small-scale Technology certificates (STCs). STCs are created for these systems at the time of installation, according to the amount of electricity they are expected to produce or displace in the future. RET liable entities with an obligation under the LRET scheme also have a legal requirement under the SRES to buy and surrender STCs to the Clean Energy Regulator on a quarterly basisOMF Markets can assist you in buying or selling STCs to meet your company’s requirements.
Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs)
Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) are the primary carbon credits that are regulated by ASIC in Australia. ACCUs are issued for Australian emission reduction or sequestration projects regulated by the Clean Energy Regulator.
New Zealand Units (NZUs)
New Zealand Units (NZUs) are the New Zealand domestic carbon unit. In the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme, participants must surrender emissions units to offset carbon dioxide emissions reported or they may choose to buy NZ units from the government at a fixed price of NZ$25.
European Carbon (EUAs)
European Unit Allowances (EUAs) are the European domestic carbon unit. The European Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is the oldest carbon ETS in the world. EUAs are auctioned regularly into the market by EU member governments. Participants must surrender emissions units to offset carbon dioxide emissions reported.
Offset markets (CERs)
Offset markets were established in the first Kyoto commitment period in order to promote, develop and finance renewable energy projects predominately in developing countries, known as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The CDM Board approve projects and issue CERs which can be used by some schemes for partial offsetting by emitters. Australia is another country that allows the import and use of CERs, mainly for voluntary offsetting purposes.
Voluntary Carbon Markets (VERs)
Voluntary carbon markets have been around for over 10 years and are mainly used by those wishing to voluntary offset their emissions, outside of the compliance obligation they may have under an ETS. Voluntary projects come from a wide range of methodologies and geographies. OMF Markets has access to a wide range of credits for voluntary use.
